‘Baku 2019’ Summer EYOF kicked off with wrestlers and tennis players competing first.
Winners and medalists were determined in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling in 45 and 55 kg categories.
Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Murad Haqverdiyev (45 kg) won gold medal by defeating Georgian athlete Nikolozi Santeladze in the final with only one athlete winning bronze medal – Eldar Asakayev from Russia.
Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Farid Sadiqli also won gold medal in 45 kg category while Umut Coban from Turkey won silver and Maksim Gurov (Russia) and Kaspars Bondorenko (Latvia) won bronze medals.
Italian freestyle wrestler Vincenzo Piroddu won gold medal in 55 kg category. He defeated Azerbaijani wrestler Abulfaz Nasirov in the final. Maqomedemi Eltemirov (Russia) and Benedek Kiss (Hungary) won bronze medals.
Hleb Makaranka from Belarus won gold medal in the same category of Greco-Roman wrestling with silver medals going to Georgian athlete Romeo Beridze and Russian Danil Qriqoryev.
There were also qualification rounds of singles tennis competitions held today.
Azerbaijan lead medals table with 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals followed by Italy and Belarus with 1 gold medals each. Georgia is fourth with 2 silver medals, while Turkey is fifth with 1 silver medal. With 3 bronze medals Russia is sixth followed by Latvia and Hungary with 1 bronze medals each.
