About Tennis

Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Tennis is originated in Birmingham, England in the late 19th century. Governing body of tennis is the International Tennis Federation which were found in 1913. Tennis is played by millions of recreational players and is also a popular worldwide spectator sport. The four Grand Slam tournaments are especially popular: the Australian Open, the French Open (Roland Garros), Wimbledon, and US Open. Wheelchair tennis is one of the forms of tennis adapted for wheelchair users. Beach tennis is easy and fun to play on a sand. Padel tennis is played on a court surrounded by metallic mesh and glass walls. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev, Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, Osaka Naomi, Karolina Pliskova, Petra Kvitova, Elina Svitolina, Halep Simona are worldwide tennis players. 

Kanan Gasimov, Umayra Hashimova, Elvin Hashimov, Alina Gavrish, Haktan Garayev, Tamerlan Azizov are advanced and promising tennis players in Azerbaijan. Kanan Gasimov has recently won in the Tennis Europe Tournament 14,16&U Devoted to the Memory of Haydar Aliyev in Baku, Azerbaijan and became the finalist of the Rena&Dato Cup in Tbilisi, Georgia.  

EYOF Baku 2019

Baku Tennis Academy will be hosting the 15th EYOF Baku 2019 Tennis Competition on 21-27 July 2019. The competition will take place in accordance with the Tennis Europe Junior Tour Category 1 and European Junior Championships regulations, the Rules of EOC and the Rules of Tennis adopted by the ITF. The athletes competing in the EYOF must be born on or after January 1st 2004 until 31st December 2005. Boys and girls will take part in the singles and doubles events. Two boy athletes Kanan Gasimov, Tamerlan Azizov, and two girls Alina Guseynova and Polina Drobysheva will represent Azerbaijan in this games.    

Baku Tennis Academy 

Baku Tennis Academy was built in 2009 and since that time hosted Baku Cup WTA tournaments, Men’s and Women’s Pro Circuits, 12&U, 14&U, 16&U, 18&U Tennis tournaments and Baku 2017 ISG in the past eight years. Generally there is 12 courts at Baku Tennis Academy, a central court, six outdoor, five indoor courts, fitness, pool and Spa.

15th EYOF Baku 2019 Tennis Competition and training will be organized on the outdoor and indoor courts of Baku Tennis Academy.
